She Deserves focuses on providing organic cramp relief for menstrual pain. They aim to address the issue of uncontrolled menstrual pain experienced by girls, which often leads to difficulties in attending daily activities such as classes. Many individuals resort to taking painkillers, unaware of the potential health complications associated with them, such as liver and kidney damage, increased blood pressure, and heartburn.

She Deserves offers an alternative approach using aromatherapy to provide an effective cramp relief dropper. Their product is designed to be easy to carry and use, with no side effects. Users apply a few drops of the relief dropper over the cramping area and rub it for one minute. It generates instant warmth, allowing the oil to be absorbed into the body, thereby helping to relax the cramping muscles within 10 to 15 minutes. They empower girls to have safe, happy, and pain-free periods, enabling them to reach their full potential.

The Social Problem
In Uganda 78% of the primary school children and 82% of the secondary school students report having experienced sexual abuse at school (UNICEF 2013). According to the Annual Crime Report (2013) of the Uganda Police Force, close to 10,000 cases of defilement were reported in 2013, making it the second leading crime committed in Uganda. Astoundingly, only four percent of perpetrators have been convicted. The number of unreported cases are unknown but are estimated to be as high as even 50,000 per year. Tens of thousands of girls suffer in silence, while the perpetrators are not prosecuted. Like in my own case, it often happens within family settings and this is what makes it so difficult and often impossible for the victims to talk about. They do not want to be responsible for breaking the family apart or they fear the consequences of e.g. not receiving school fees or basic needs. The fear that no one will believe often leaves the victim to blame herself, even hate herself sometimes for the rest of their live or committing suicide. Without being able to speak about the events, girls end up being affected for life about the way they perceive themselves, relationships with men and lack of self-belief. Janet Aguti was one of the girls sexually abused as a child. For 17 years she did not find the courage to tell anyone. She started to see her past as strength rather than a subject of shame and Today, Janet Aguti is the founder and driving force of Totya Platform.

The Solution
Totya Platform provides support to victims of sexual violence through Peer Groups, Life-Coaching- in person and online, as well as medical and legal support of severe cases. Anonymous interactions with survivors of sexual violence, who overcame sexual abuse themselves, enable users to speak about their experiences while receiving emotional care and self-help tools. Our service is free and available to those who were victims of sexual violence – no matter what type or by whom – in their childhood or as youths. Totya supports all questions and problems that have resulted from the sexual violence and its effects as an adult. Coaching sessions are absolutely confidential.

According to 2021 UNHCR data in 22 health centres in Bidibidi refugee settlement, around 25–30 babies of 0–3 months are born weekly. As a result, around 13 babies dies of pneumonia due to too much coldness, which advanced in babies because of poor house structures in Bidibidi refugee settlement. Mothers cannot afford to purchase warm beddings and baby sows, which are more expensive due to the low-income status of the mothers.

As Babykit Company Limited, we make and offer durable and affordable baby warmers to lactating and expecting mothers of 0-3 month babies to protect them from coldness that causes pneumonia.

Therefore, Babykit company uses locally grown materials (cotton) from the local community farmers to make and produce affordable baby warmers.

We make baby warmers for lactating and expecting mothers with 0-3 month babies made from locally grown cotton for mothers to use by entering the newborn baby into the warmer so the baby feels warm and cold. This will help babies feel like they are with their mothers as the warmer provides warmth. Mothers will have enough time to do other domestic work as babies enjoy the product as they have low-income status will also help.

The babykit products are the sifo warmer [sifo means good in the local language, and the heavy baby blanket warmer.] They enter the baby into the sifo warmer while the heavy baby blanket, they use it for covering the babies, and they are all made out from the locally grown cotton grown by the community members.

“The current alternatives are the health partner offering light baby clothes, and the traders offering baby saws that are light and expensive mothers cannot afford to purchase. While babykit uses locally grown materials, cotton, for making very cheap baby warmers and affordable compared to the current solutions, which are expensive at 60,000 ugx compared to ours at 20,000 ugx.

Babykit is accessible and reliable within the community compared to the other solutions, which are far away. They are inaccessible and unreliable to their customers.

With Uganda’s rapidly growing population of close to 50 million healthy foods are high on demand but unaffordable for refugees living far from urban centres, where items have to be transported long distances. This is why Loketa Agrofarm locally grows and sources peanuts and sesame seeds to locally produce healthy and affordable pure and organic cooking oils. These oils are extracted using cold-pressed and expeller-pressed methods without chemicals or solvents, preserving their natural vitamins and minerals. This approach supports health and increases income for refugees, providing a unique and eco-friendly solution.

Eco-Shoes Africa is a social enterprise founded by Moses Taban Mathew within the Bidibidi refugee settlement in northern Uganda. Focused on sustainability and community impact, Eco-Shoes Africa recycles discarded shoes to create unique, eco-friendly designs, supporting both environmental protection and practical needs. Through their work, they ensure vulnerable children in the settlement have shoes to wear, especially for school, addressing a vital community need.

Eco-Shoes Africa provides job opportunities for marginalized youth and women in the camp. In a setting where traditional pathways are limited, this initiative empowers young refugees and women to develop skills in shoemaking, transforming the social and economic landscape. As a result, the enterprise tackles local unemployment and inspires community-driven solutions to everyday challenges.

The inspiration for Eco-Shoes Africa stems from Moses’ personal journey. Raised by a single mother in South Sudan, he often went to school with worn shoes his cousin gave him. In 2016, conflict in South Sudan forced Moses to seek refuge in Uganda, where he noticed the same issue—many children in the refugee camp were walking barefoot due to a lack of resources. This powerful memory drove him to launch Eco-Shoes Africa, aiming to give children the dignity and safety of proper footwear. Initially a challenging endeavor, the enterprise began to thrive as a team formed around the shared goal of empowerment and resilience.
