SINA Social Enterprise Bootcamps – Leadership in Action

For five days, you work alongside a SINA social enterprise on a business challenge which matters.

There is no case study and no simulated outcome. Real customers are involved. Decisions have consequences. The entrepreneur remains in the lead. Your task is to help create progress by listening, contributing what you know and recognizing when somebody else knows better.

Work on something real

Across SINA, young people and refugees turn problems they know firsthand into social enterprises. During a 5-day bootcamp, you join one of these teams at a decisive moment. The team might be testing whether customers will pay for a new offer, trying to understand why growing sales are not producing a profit, or preparing the enterprise for its next stage.

You may interview customers, examine costs and pricing, test an assumption, build a prototype or help the team make sense of its next move. You participate as a contributor and not as an outside expert arriving with the answer. The enterprise gains focused support. You experience what leadership demands when hierarchy, familiar systems and complete information are no longer available.

From push to pull

Many leadership programmes talk about ownership. Here, you experience what it takes for ownership to emerge. The people around you do not report to you. Your title carries no authority. Your professional experience can be useful, but only when it meets the local knowledge and lived experience already present in the team. To move forward, you have to build trust, work across differences and organize around the purpose of the enterprise. You learn when to step in, when to ask, when to enable someone else and when to let go of your own idea.

This is the shift from pushing work towards people to creating the conditions in which people take responsibility for it.

What you take back

You leave with more than an understanding of social entrepreneurship. You will have practised how to:

  • Lead when formal authority is not enough
  • Listen and collaborate across cultural and professional boundaries
  • Make progress without having every answer
  • Enable ownership without becoming the bottleneck
  • Bring different capabilities together around a shared purpose
  • Test ideas and learn from real customer responses
  • Contribute expertise without taking control
  • Recognize when somebody else is better placed to lead

The experience can also bring greater humility, confidence and clarity about the kind of leader you want to be.

What this can unlock in your organization

You return having practised how to mobilize people around a shared purpose, bring different functions together and act under uncertainty. Applied back at work, previous participants have reported:

  • Greater ownership and initiative within teams
  • Better collaboration across functions and organizational boundaries
  • Faster movement from discussion to testing
  • More confident decision-making with incomplete information
  • A more human and entrepreneurial response to problems
  • Leaders who know when to direct, when to enable and when to step back

Find the model

Work with an early-stage enterprise team

Get close to the customer. Understand the problem, question assumptions and turn ideas into something people can respond to.

The work may include:

  • Customer conversations and observation
  • Understanding the problem behind the idea
  • Testing assumptions
  • Developing prototypes
  • Exploring offers and pricing
  • Finding the first routes to market

Within SINA, this forms part of the Concentration Stage

Work with an enterprise that is already operating

Work with a team that has moved beyond the initial idea and is facing the real questions of running and growing an enterprise.

The work may include:

  • Business model and financial clarity
  • Sales and market development
  • Costs, pricing and cash flow
  • Team roles and ways of working
  • Impact and growth decisions
  • Forecasting and investment readiness

Within SINA, this forms part of the Acceleration Stage.

How it works

Before the bootcamp

We learn about the participants, their experience and the leadership questions they bring. Participants receive contextual and intercultural preparation before being matched with enterprise teams during an online preparation call.

Five days at SINA

Participants work alongside the entrepreneurs, meet customers, test ideas and help move a real business challenge forward. Reflection is built into the experience. We work on the social enterprises together and participants reflect how they used their expertise, responded to uncertainty, shared responsibility and worked with people whose experiences were different from their own.

Back at work

Participants translate the experience into a concrete leadership experiment in their own team or organization. A follow-up session can support reflection, accountability and continued application. Continued contact with the enterprise may also be possible where it is useful and wanted by both sides.

Who is it for?

SINA Bootcamps can be designed for:

  • Emerging leaders and team leads
  • Experienced executives
  • Cross-functional leadership cohorts
  • Talent-development programmes
  • Innovation and transformation teams
  • Sustainability and social-impact teams
  • Entrepreneurs and enterprise-support practitioners

Organizations can bring a dedicated cohort, or individual participants can join selected open bootcamps.

No background in social entrepreneurship is required. What matters is curiosity, openness and a willingness to contribute without needing to be the person with the answer.

A reciprocal experience

This is not a project visit or a volunteering trip. SINA entrepreneurs are not case studies, beneficiaries or learning objects. They are founders, experts and decision-makers working on social and environmental enterprises rooted in problems they understand firsthand. Participants bring experience, questions and focused support. The entrepreneurs bring lived knowledge, courage, entrepreneurial practice and a very different environment in which to experience leadership.

Both sides leave stronger.
