Kivu Énergie Verte

Transforming plastic waste into fuel for motorbikes in Bukavu, DRC

In Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo, plastic waste is choking streets and the shores of Lake Kivu. At the same time, fuel prices keep rising, and many people depend on imported petrol they can hardly afford.

Kivu Energy Vert, a social enterprise from our SINA Community in Bukavu, is working on a local answer. They collect plastic waste and use pyrolysis to turn it into crude fuel. The process is still developing and needs further refinement, especially distillation and safer gas control. But the direction is powerful. A street problem becomes a business. And a community in Bukavu becomes part of building a more self-reliant future.
