Regenerative agriculture is gaining traction as a sustainable alternative to conventional farming methods. The SINA Community “Jangu International” is among the pioneers in this approach in Uganda, working with the 100 local farmers from the surrounding districts. Conventional farming often relies heavily on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. While these methods may offer short-term gains in yield, they come at a significant cost to the environment. Chemicals destroy the ecosystems and degrade the soil over time, making it less fertile and more prone to erosion and disease.
Regenerative agriculture, on the other hand, aims to work in harmony with nature. The soil health improves over time and fosters a balanced ecosystem. In the SINA Community, this approach has proven to produce abundant food to feed the entire community for extended periods. The community Agroforest was started in March 2023 and by now is not just a place to grow food; it’s a living, breathing ecosystem. Various plants are grown. The plants add biomass to the soil, which in turn supports a variety of living organisms, like millipedes, that play a critical role in soil building. Everything has a purpose and contributes to a regenerative cycle. Waste is not discarded but returned to the soil as a natural fertilizer.
