Farm+

Cost-effective animal supplements using locally sourced organic waste as a sustainable alternative protein source

Farm+ transforms locally sourced organic waste into high-quality, protein-rich animal feed by utilizing the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly. By harnessing these natural recycling agents, the enterprise provides a sustainable, year-round alternative to conventional feeds that are often expensive, seasonal, and compete with human food sources. This approach not only reduces waste and improves food security, but also delivers an affordable, high-protein supplement that helps livestock farmers increase their productivity while minimizing costs.

The social enterprise works closely with women and smallholder farmers in rural Uganda, equipping them with valuable skills and establishing a network of local suppliers and distributors. The organic byproducts from the insect breeding process are converted into nutrient-rich compost, reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers and improving soil health. In this way, the Farm+ model fosters a sustainable, circular economy that benefits communities, the environment, and future generations. Farm+ also offers training programs that enable farmers—particularly single mothers and vulnerable households—to cultivate their own Black Soldier Fly larvae, ensuring a steady supply of affordable feed.
