Meal Ware

According to the UBOS report 2021, about 130,000 students attend universities in Uganda. Unfortunately, many continuously fail to get a decent meal daily throughout their education. This is mainly because of limited time to invest in their cooking processes since they have busy schedules (a lot of work to read and research) and high prices of cooking fuels like charcoal, gas, paraffin, and electricity. As a result, many are forced to eat junk food from very expensive restaurants, and some do not eat at all. This eventually results in diseases like ulcers and hunger among these students.

In addressing the plight of these students, we provide a user-friendly, heat-retaining, and carbon-emission-free cooking bag that saves time and money at 50,000 UGX per unit. This cooking bag is made from recycled materials like leather, pieces of cloth, sponges, and boards. You first boil your food for a recommended time (5-45 mins) according to the type of food being cooked/prepared, place it in the cooking bag, and leave it for a recommended time. Then, this bag retains heat inside to allow the food to continue cooking without any additional cooking fuel.

It, therefore, helps students to save money through saving, on average, 70% of the fuel that would have been used to get their food ready. It also saves their time since there is no need to keep an eye on what they are cooking, thus making them more productive in their daily activities.

Apart from accommodating more than two saucepan sizes and made from recycled materials instead of others on the market, the current alternatives that students use require them to invest 90% of the average time when cooking; failure to do so causes the food to get burnt or remain half cooked, of which it is a lot of time for students to get it. Our solution requires only 20% of average time to be invested throughout the cooking process, meaning 70% is saved for other productive activities like reading for better performance in their respective courses.
