Woswift is a social enterprise dedicated to empowering refugee women in Uganda through crocheting. It provides training, resources, and market access, allowing women to generate income and gain confidence. The enterprise reinvests profits to sustain growth and support the wider community.
Uganda hosts over 1.4 million refugees, predominantly from South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Somalia. Within these refugee communities, women face considerable barriers to accessing education, employment, and economic independence.
Woswift, a social enterprise based in Uganda, seeks to address these challenges by empowering refugee women through crocheting, transforming this traditional craft into a sustainable means of income and well-being.
Woswift provides women not only with essential training to refine their skills, but also with access to high-quality materials and a dependable market for their products. This holistic support allows participants to generate income, enhance their self-confidence, and actively contribute to their communities.
By producing environmentally friendly, socially responsible crocheted goods, the enterprise promotes economic empowerment while maintaining a focus on sustainability. Profits are reinvested to expand the initiative and support broader community development.
