Global Innovation Valley (GIV), an esteemed Social Innovation Academy (SINA) community member, is diligently paving the way for young refugees and marginalized youths, empowering them to evolve as changemakers and social entrepreneurs.
The origins of GIV trace back to the Kalobeyei refugee settlement, where a main office had been established, along with a sub-office in the Kakuma refugee camp. We are delighted that GIV is now fully operational, employing the SINA framework to effectuate transformations.
The 7th of July, 2023, marked the date for GIV’s official launch event and graduation ceremony – a spectacle that transcended the bounds of mere celebration, embodying community ownership and GIV’s transformative impact.
Among the attendees were an array of stakeholders and partners, inclusive of local leaders, refugee-led organizations, and representatives from prestigious organizations such as Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Danish Church Aid (DCA), COHERE, BOMA, Let’s Make The Difference (LMTD), UKAID, ACWICT, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Youth Uplift Association. The occasion illuminated GIV’s initiatives and fostered potential collaborative opportunities, signifying the power of unity.
The second cohort’s graduation stands as a testament to the transformative capability of the program.
The first cohort, attracting 90 applicants, selected 20 individuals, 15 of whom successfully completed the program. Meanwhile, the second cohort received 120 applications, selected 30 aspiring changemakers, and facilitated the graduation of 26 individuals. Each graduate was honoured with their well-deserved certificates during the event.
Reflecting upon GIV’s journey, we are brought to the realisation of how a united community, resilience, and the transformative potential of education can bring about significant change. We invite you to join us in celebrating the commendable achievements of GIV and the individuals whose lives have been significantly altered. In unity, we can continue to shape a vibrant, inclusive future for all.
