The Bidibidi Performing Arts Centre, co-created with the refugee-led SINA Loketa community in northern Uganda, has been longlisted for the Dezeen Awards 2025. The centre is a semi-open amphitheatre with session rooms, training spaces and a recording studio, built from earth bricks and topped by a lightweight roof that also harvests rainwater for the surrounding community. Bidibidi’s brick patterning allows daylight and ventilation while improving acoustics, and construction created work and training opportunities for both refugees and the host community.
SINA Loketa, part of the SINA community ecosystem of self-organized learning communities, anchors the arts centre in daily life—hosting the SINA Framework, music lessons, performances, and enterprise training that turn creativity into livelihoods.
